Travel as much as you can. The perspectives gained far outweigh the costs. Not long ago, I traveled to Israel and the experience now provides valuable insights, particularly as I watch the Israel-Hamas war unfold. More importantly, through travel, you can a better sense of people and culture allowing you to see the similarities to your own world.

Israel’s entrepreneurial spirit, especially in Tel Aviv, is a testament to the resilience and creativity born out of necessity. The city buzzes with an innovative energy reminiscent of the vibrant scene in Austin, Texas. Both cities are hotbeds for startups, brimming with young, dynamic energy and a willingness to challenge the status quo.

Tel Aviv’s tech scene is a story of triumph over adversity. In the face of geopolitical challenges, Israeli entrepreneurs have cultivated a culture of determination and agility. This resilience mirrors the broader societal spirit of Israel, a country that has continually navigated a complex geopolitical landscape.

Despite being in the Middle East with significant tensions, there’s a palpable sense of unity and purpose, driving forward innovation and growth. The parallels between Tel Aviv and Austin are striking. Both cities boast diverse, inclusive environments where ideas flourish. They are places where the unconventional becomes the norm, and where adversity fuels rather than extinguishes the entrepreneurial fire.

It’s not just about travel; it’s about exposure to different ways of thinking and solving problems, which is invaluable for anyone in the business world. I encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zone, travel when possible, and engage with the global community. The lessons learned and the perspectives gained are indispensable.

Unfortunately, the media often has to boil down complex problems into sound bites. Fortunately, travel and being there in person gives you context to understand the complexity.

Oh and by the way, Hamas is a terrorist organization. Not a political faction. They don’t represent the Palestinian peoples’ best interests and they need to be destroyed until they are combat ineffective. (But that’s just the Soldier in me talking)
